Taming the Social Media Firehose: Can ChatGPT’s Agent Make Sense of the Scroll?
Let’s face it—our social media feeds are overflowing. Between promotions, think pieces, AI debates, Excel tips, and higher ed updates, the first scroll of the day can feel like a full-time job. So, I decided to see if ChatGPT’s Agent could help.
I tasked the Agent with a simple but time-consuming job:
- Scroll through the first 100 posts in my LinkedIn feed
- Categorize and group them
- Summarize the key points in a clear, digestible format
The Agent delivered the results in about 20 minutes. The output grouped posts into themes—such as Higher Ed, AI, Career Moves, and Excel Tips—and provided highlights with mouse-over previews of the original posts for easy reference.
The process worked surprisingly well. The summaries were clear, contextually aware, and easy to scan. It felt like getting a personal news digest, customized to my network.
While the summaries were broad, I can already see the potential. With a refined prompt, the Agent could zero in on more substantive insights, filter out fluff, and help me focus on the content that matters most.
Bottom line: If LinkedIn is starting to feel like a firehose, this kind of AI assistance could be a smart way to drink from it—without getting soaked.
